SIDDHA MEDICINES FOR TONSILLITIS

Tonsillitis is inflammation of the tonsils. Signs and symptoms of tonsillitis include swollen tonsils, sore throat, difficulty swallowing and tender lymph nodes on the sides of the neck. Tonsillitis may be due to Bacteria or virus. It is most common in school aged children.
According to siddha this disease is caused due to the increase of Pitha and Kapha humours in the dwelling place of kapha humour. Several effective medicines are explained in siddha system of medicine for tonsillitis. Kapha jwara Kudineer, Gorochana mathirai, Poondu thaen, Thoothuvalai churnam, ImpooralTablets, Thaleesadi vadagam, Sivanar Amritham, Thaleesadi churnam and  Gowri Chinthamani are some of them. Thrikadugu churnam  in a dose of 2- 3 gm with sugar candy and honey  twice a day before food will be beneficial.  One to two Balasanjeevi mathirai can be given with honey twice daily to children with tonsillitis. 

For recurrent tonsil infections in children Urai mathirai can be given as a prophylactic measure and vengara parpam with honey or Poondu thaen can be applied over tonsils as local application. Nellikkai lehyam, Chukku nei, Thuthuvalai nei etc can be given for longer periods such as 6 months for improving immunity.
