Nelli or Indian gooseberry is a medicinal plant with lots of health benefits. In sanskrit it is known as amalaki. The botanical name of this plant is Phyllanthus emblica. Nellikkai is the fruit of this plant. It is yellowish, white in colour when it is fresh and if dried it will be black then it is called ‘Nelli mulli’( Dry Goose berry with out seed). Fresh fruits have three tastes Sour, Astringent and Sweet.
By use of Gooseberry (Nellikkai) it cures Psychiatric ailments, Kapha problems, Sinusitis, Improves salivation,
Vomiting, Giddiness, Constipation, Diabetes and Increase complexion. The root of this plant have an ability to cure vomiting, tastelessness, diseases due to the vitiation of 3 humors, constipation, and the bad effects caused due to improper pathiyam (Diet regimen).
