SILASATH PARPAM



Silasath parpam is a wellknown siddha medicine mentioned in the Tamil Medicinal text book, Agasthiyar paripooranam 400. The ingredients required to make this medicine are Purified Gypsum (Karpoora silasath) and Coldenia Juice (Siru seruppadai charu).

Gypsum is mined in several places in India. Chemically it is a soft sulfate mineral composed of calcium sulfate dihydrate, with the chemical formula CaSO4·2H2O.

This medicine is well prescribed in inflammation of urethra, retention of urine, leucorrhoea, painful micturition, burning sensation all over the body etc. Silasath parpam is used in the treatment of male infertility, impotency and also in the treatment of diabetes.

The dosage of this medicine is 500 - 1000 mg with Butter or Ghee as adjuvent, twice daily.

'Parpams' are medicines usually made with the process of calcination. There are rare exceptions like Muthu parpam and Kungiliya parpam. The shelf life of parpams are 100 years if stored properly.

DRAKSHADI KUDINEER

Drakshadi Kudineer or Thiraatchai Kudineer is a herbal coarse powder in siddha. This is used for the making of decoction. For making of decoction 25gm of this powder is boiled with 500ml of water and reduced to 100- 125 ml. Usual dose of this medicine is 30-60 ml of decoction.
The prime ingredients are Draksha (vitis vinifera), Kadukkai (Terminalia chebula), Nellikkai (Phyllanthus emblica), Thannikkai ((Terminalia bellirica) Nilavarai ( Cassia senna), Sarakondrai Puli (Cassia fistula), Sivadai (Operculina terpethum)(Trivrit) and Rose buds.






The decoction is laxative in action. It is useful in biliousness, anaemia etc. Used in the treatment of skin diseases and Pitha diseases. 
This medicine is available with IMPCOPS ltd, nad SKM Siddha and Ayurveda.

MANDOORATHI KUDINEER

Mandoorathi Kudineer is a Herbo - Mineral combination drug in Siddha System of medicine. This drug is in the form of coarse powder.  It is used to make decoction. The main ingredients of this medicine are Dross iron [1], Dry wedelia (wedelia chinensis)(Manjal Karisalai), Phyllanthus herb (Phyllanthus neruri)(Keezhanelli), Asteracantha herb(Asteracantha longifolia)(Neermulli), Cumin sedds(Cuminum cyminum)(Jeerakam)

10 grams of this medicine is added to 800ml water, boiled and reduced to 100ml to get the decoction. 30-60 ml of decoction twice daily is the dose of this medicine.

This medicine is very effective in treating Ascites, swelling in various parts of body, oedema, anaemia, jaundice and also enlargement of liver and spleen. It is useful in urinary infections as it increases the urine output.
 This medicine along with karislai churnam ( a herbal  drug powder in siddha) and Jalamanjari (a herbo - mineral drug in siddha) is very effective in treating liver disorders and jaundice.

[1] Dross Iron - Dross Iron consist of slag refuse obtained in melting iron in the kilns or hearths. It contains elemental Iron and various amounts of iron oxides and carbon.

PARANGIPATTAI CHURNAM

Parangi pattai churnam is one of the important siddha classical medicines. The classical evidences of this medicine is available in siddha classical text book Siddhavaidya Thirattu. The main ingradient of this medicine is the China root (Smilax Chinensis). The root is soaked in Thulasi Juice (Sacred Basil Juice) , dried and powdered. Equal quantity of sugar is mixed with the powder to get the final product.


The dose of this medicine is 1-2 grams twice daily with milk, honey or sugar.
This is a very good medicine for leucoderma, veneral diseases and leprosy. It promotes appitite and gives complexion to the skin.
This medicine can be used both internally and externally with goats milk to reduce black markings in the face due to pimples.
This is very effective in the management of psoriasis.

New Website for Cancer Care from National Institute of siddha

National Institute of Siddha, is a Post Graduate Institute with national importance under Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India. National Institute of siddha is hosting an exclusive website for sharing  cancer management in siddha system of medicine. The website www.siddhacancercare.org was launched by Additional chief Secretary to Govt of Tamilnadu, and Commissioner of Indian Systems of Medicine, Tamilnadu, Mr. Mohan Pyare I.A.S. Dr.V.Bhanumathi, Director, NIS, have taken steps to execute this initiative.
