BRAHMANANDA BHAIRAVAM for Fevers

Brahmanantha Bairavam is a classical siddha Herbo-mineral  used in the treatment of fevers. The preparation method and uses of this medicine is well explained in siddha text Siddha Vaidya Thirattu.
The main ingredients of this medicine are

  1. Purified borax (Venkaram)
  2. Purified Sulfur ( Gandhagam)
  3. Purified Red Orpiment (Manosilai)
  4. Purified Aconite ( Karu nabhi)
  5. Purified Yellow Orpiment (Thalakam)
  6. Dry Ginger
  7. Purified Cinnabar ( Lingam)
  8. Fresh Ginger Juice
 The dosage of this medicine is 1 pill twice a day with ginger juice or honey. This can be given with other siddha medicines like Nilavembu Kudineer, Vasantha Kusumakaram Tablets, Santha Chandrodayam Tablets, Gandhaka Mathirai, Balassanjeevi mathirai, Kapha jwara Kudineer, Vatha Jwara Kudineer etc.

KALNAR PARPAM

This is classical herbo-mineral siddha preparation explained in text Dhanwanthiri Vaidya Kavyam 1000 . 
The main ingradient of this medicine is Purified Asbestose. This mineral is processed in plant juice of bracteated birthwort plant (Aadutheendaa palai plant) (Aristolochia plant).
 The dosage of this medicine is 100- 200 mg twice daily with ghee or butter. This medicine will cure biliousness, painful micturition, inflamation of uro-genital tract and leucorrhoea. For luecorrhoea and associated symptoms this medicine can be given with Kadaleekalpa Rasayanam.is an excellent remedy.

GANDHAGA PARPAM for Skin Problems


Gandhaka parpam is a classical siddha herbo- mineral preparation. The process of preparation and its benefits are well explained in siddha text Anubhava vaidya Navaneetham of   Hakim. Pa. Mohd. Abdullah Sahib. 


The main ingredient in this product is sulphur. Purified sulfur is processed in Acalipha juice, Arjun bark ash and special solution of Arjun Bark ( Marutham pattai Jayaneer)

Gandhaka parpam can be given with Ghee or butter for skin diseases, fistula and diabetes. For the treatment of skin diseases it administered along with other siddha medicines like  Ganthaga Rasayanam, Parangipattai pathangam, parangipattai churnam, Sivanar vembu churnam, Kushta gaja kesari tablets, Thriphala churnam etc.
The usual dose of this medicine is 25-50 mg twice daily.

KUMKUMAPOO MATHRAI for cold and Excessive sweating.

Kumkumapoo mathirai is a herbo-mineral siddha classical preparation from siddha text Baala Vagadam.  


The ingredients of this medicine are Dry ginger, white pepper, cubebs, costus, ajowan, purified cinnabar, Gorochan, long pepper, cloves, cardamom, Borax, Saffron and Gum Benzoin.



This medicine will cure cold, heaviness of head due to cold, constipation and excessive sweating. The usual dosage of this medicine is 1 to 2 pills twice daily with honey and for children this can be given along with breast milk.

SIDDHA MEDICINES FOR TONSILLITIS

Tonsillitis is inflammation of the tonsils. Signs and symptoms of tonsillitis include swollen tonsils, sore throat, difficulty swallowing and tender lymph nodes on the sides of the neck. Tonsillitis may be due to Bacteria or virus. It is most common in school aged children.
According to siddha this disease is caused due to the increase of Pitha and Kapha humours in the dwelling place of kapha humour. Several effective medicines are explained in siddha system of medicine for tonsillitis. Kapha jwara Kudineer, Gorochana mathirai, Poondu thaen, Thoothuvalai churnam, ImpooralTablets, Thaleesadi vadagam, Sivanar Amritham, Thaleesadi churnam and  Gowri Chinthamani are some of them. Thrikadugu churnam  in a dose of 2- 3 gm with sugar candy and honey  twice a day before food will be beneficial.  One to two Balasanjeevi mathirai can be given with honey twice daily to children with tonsillitis. 

For recurrent tonsil infections in children Urai mathirai can be given as a prophylactic measure and vengara parpam with honey or Poondu thaen can be applied over tonsils as local application. Nellikkai lehyam, Chukku nei, Thuthuvalai nei etc can be given for longer periods such as 6 months for improving immunity.

GANDHAKA MATHIRAI for Chronic Fevers

Gandhaka Mathirai is a classical siddha Herbo-mineral preparation in Pills form. The praparation method and uses of this medicine is explained in siddha text book Siddha Vaidya Thirattu. 


The ingredients of this medicine are,
  • Purified Sulphur
  • Purified Aconite
  • Purified Mercury
  • Purified Black pepper
  • Pumpkin seeds
  • lime juice. 


This medicine can be given in a dosage of 1-2 pills twice daily with suitable adjuvants like honey and Thrikadugu churnam for chronic fevers.  This can also be taken along with other medicines for fever like Nilavembu Kudineer, Vatha jwara  Kudineer, Kapha Jwara Kudineer, Brahmanantha Bairavam Tablets etc.

ARUMUGHA CHENDURAM for Rheumatic complaints

Chenduram is cataory of siddha medicine with reddish colour and powdery form. In siddha system the chenduram variety of medicines need not necessarily contain sulpher or mercury and there are instances where no heating is required at all in the process. Depending upon the preparation method of chenduram it is classified into several types such as ‘erippu chenduram’ , ‘varuppu chenduram’, araippu chenduram’, kuppi erippu chenduram’, ‘leghupuda chenduram’ etc.

Arumugha chenduram comes under the type of Erippu chenduram’. The making process include burning of mixture of herbo-mineral combination in a crucible for 24 hours to obtain suitable physical form and colour. The colour of this medicine is an important check measure during the process. It should be dark purple in colour in the final stage of the process. The whole process is explained in the siddha text book, siddha Vaidya thirattu.
Ingredients
1.       Purified Mercury
2.       Purified Sulfur
3.       Purified Lodestone
4.       Purified Iron Fillings
5.       Purified Rock salt
6.       Desiccated Borax
7.       Aloe Juice

Indications :

Rheumatic complaints, Piles, uterine disorders, gastric ulcer, orchitis, myalgia, fissure foot, syphilis, hernia, tuberculosis, bubo, sprue, Anaemic conditions, scrofula, colic and head ache.

The Dosage of this medicine is 100 to 200 mg twice a day with honey or Thrikadu churnam.

Health Benefits of Nellikka (Goose Berry)

Nelli or Indian gooseberry  is a medicinal plant with lots of health benefits.  In sanskrit it is known as amalaki.  The botanical name of this plant is Phyllanthus emblicaNellikkai is the fruit of this plant. It is yellowish, white in colour when it is fresh and if dried it will be black then it is called ‘Nelli mulli’( Dry Goose berry with out seed). Fresh fruits have three tastes Sour, Astringent and Sweet.

By use of Gooseberry (Nellikkai) it cures Psychiatric ailments, Kapha problems, Sinusitis, Improves salivation, Vomiting, Giddiness, Constipation, Diabetes and Increase complexion. The root of this plant have an ability to cure vomiting, tastelessness, diseases due to the vitiation of 3 humors, constipation, and the bad effects caused due to improper pathiyam (Diet regimen).

Gooseberries (Nelliakkai) can be taken as Kalpa medicine as pickle, decoction, thenooral (Keeping inside honey for stipulated time) etc. It is said that doing this can keep ones young. Nellikkai is having Vitamin C in it. So it enhances the immunity.

Dry Goose berry with out seed (Nellimulli) can be pasted and applied on the fore head, which gives coolness to eyes, A decoction of nellimulli with added sugar and milk will cure Increased body heat, ulcers in male genitalia and vomiting.

PATTU KARUPPU


This special siddha medicine is described in the siddha text, Siddha vaidya thirattu. 


The  ingredients of this medicine are, Purified mercury, Purified sulphur, Purified Cinnabar, Purified Calomel, Purified corrosive sublimate, Purified white arsenic, Purified Lords stone, purified Aconite, Clove, Caster oil , Lead wort root powder and silk cloth. The word Karupp in the name of this medicine is derived from the black color of the product. Sulphur and mercury present in this medicine, contribute black color to this medicine. The final product will be jet black in colour. 

This is an excellent medicine for Dysmenorrhoea and leucorrhoea. For dysmenorrhoea this medicine may be given with ginger juice twice daily after food for 7 days. Some other siddha medicines like Kollu kashayam, Gunma uppu, Poondu lehyam and Mathulai ney may also given along with this medicine for better results. For Lucorrhoea this medicine can be given with honey along with other medicines like Nannari manapagu, Padika poongaavi chenduram, Kungiliya parpam, Asoka pattai churnam etc.

 The usual dosage of this medicine is  25 to 50 mg. Usually it will be given with Honey.

THOOTHUVALAI NEY

Thoothuvalai Ney is a Ghee preparation. Agasthyar Vaidya Rathna Churukkam is the reference text of this Ghee based siddha classical medicine. Ney is a medicated ghee preparation which contains the fat soluble medicinal principles of the drugs used in the particular preparation. In Ayurveda this kind of preparation is called as Ghritha.

Main ingredients of this preparation are 
1. Climbing bringal root 
2. Barleriya root
3. Yellow berried night shade root
4. Adathoda root
5. Climbing nettle root
6. Black pepper
7. Long pepper
Etc
Indications : Asthma, bronchitis, bronchiectasis, biliousness, cough, Tuberculosis and rheumatism
Dose : 1 to 2 teaspoons, Twice daily.

For the treatment of Asthma and Bronchitis this medicine can be used along with siddha medicines like Thaleesadi churnam, Pavizha Parpam, Sivanar amritham, Thalaka Karupp, Swasakudori tablets etc.

MUTHU CHIPPI PARPAM

Muthu chippi Parpam is a siddha herbo- mineral preparation  explained in detail in Siddha text siddha vaidya thirattu. The main ingredient of the preparation is pearl oyster shells. This medicine is used in the treatment of piles, fistula, cough, and tuberculosis
The dosage of this preparation is 200-300 mg twice a day. It's usually given with butter or ghee. Along with Karunai Lehyam and Naga parpam it a good remedy for bleeding piles.

Siddha Home Remedies with Adathoda

AADATHODAI or Adathoda (Justicia adhatoda) is a helb with several medicinal properties. Justicia adhatoda, commonly known in English as Malabar nut, adulsa, adhatoda, vasa, or vasaka, is a medicinal plant native to Asia, widely used in Siddha Medicine, Ayurvedic, homeopathy and Unani systems of medicine.

Home Remedies with Adathoda
1. Leaves of this plant is very much useful in Curing fevers, gastric problems, cough, and vomiting.

2. For Hypertension, fever, cough and jaundice. Take Leaf juice 10-20 drops twice a day by  adding honey.

3. Leaf is rolled and smoked as Cigarette it cures cough.

4. For cough, fever and emaciation of body - Leaf and root are taken in equal quantity, add pepper make it as decoction by putting this in water for some hours. Take this preparation 15 to 30 ml twice daily.

5. Bark decoction is given for fever, cough and tuberculosis.

6. Root of adathodai, Kandankattiri root (Solanum surattense), chukku(Zingiber officinale), Kollu. Decoction prepared with these and given with powder of water lilly tuber for fever due to increased Kapha.

PARANGIPATTAI PATHANGAM

Pathangam is a sublimate. A number of organic and inorganic materials, which are capable of sublimation, are used in the preparation. The process of preparation involve the heating of the sublimating constituent in the suitable set up. Parangipattai pathangam is described in text Pulippani vaidyam - 500. Pathangam has a shelf life of 10 years.
This medicine is administered in a dose of 100-200 mg twice a day with palm jaggery as an adjuvent. It may be given for 40 days with strict diet restrictions. According to Pulipani vaidyam 500 it will cure skin diseases, venereal diseases, osteoarthritis, Leucorrhoea, Tooth ache and dental diseases.
